SINDH GOVT AGAIN WISHES LG POLLS WERE POSTPONED DUE TO SECURITY THREATS


 In light of security concerns, the Sindh government on Saturday proposed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) postpone the LG elections in Hyderabad and Karachi.


The Sindh government asked the election commission in a letter to postpone the LG elections since there aren't enough Army and Rangers personnel to hold elections.


With regard to the total of 17 districts, the Sindh government has advised the ECP to postpone elections in 8 of them, including 7 districts in Karachi and 1 district in Hyderabad.


Security at the polling place has not been provided by the provincial authorities.

The MQM-Rabita P's Committee had already kept up its discussions about leaving the federal government. The MQM-top P's leaders demanded that the National Assembly members resign (MNAs).


Prior to the second round of local government (LG) elections in Sindh, including the Karachi and Hyderabad Divisions, the MQM-P expressed grave concerns about the boundaries and voter lists.


It is important to note that the Sindh government announced the postponement of the LG elections in Hyderabad and Karachi in response to the MQM-demand. P's


Local body elections will take place on January 15 as scheduled after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the province government's request to delay voting.


The ECP has instructed the Interior Ministry to ensure the deployment of Rangers and Army on extremely sensitive polling locations in Hyderabad and Karachi, rejecting the notification and request from the Sindh government.


Later, the Sindh government also declared that local government (LG) elections would take place on January 15,2023
